“The Sinking Settlement.“ An assessment of Historic Jamestowne, rising sea levels, and heritage risk management practices in the United States. This project served as a launching point for a collaborative nature-based design project with Colonial National Historical Park (COLO) and UVA graduate students and faculty.
“Preserving the Public’s Place.“ An analysis of preservation planning issues in Charlottesville’s historic Downtown Mall as it celebrates 50 years. Completed as a final project and presentation for Preservation Planning (PLAN 5300).
“3D Cultural Heritage Informatics.” Examples of 3D scanning work completed in Spring 2022, including artifacts, historic homes, and cultural landscapes. Featured sites: Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, UVA’s Sunnyside House, and the St. John Rosenwald School in Albemarle County, Virginia.
“The Plague in the Passageway.” An urban analysis of a highly-decorated sotoportego in Venice, Italy with special symbolic and cultural significance: according to legend, it once stopped the plague from entering a neighborhood.
“The Façade’s Façade.” A study of the history, materiality, and preservation of red wash, a reddish pigment historically applied to brick structures to brighten their exteriors and demonstrate wealth and power.
